nowhere to go

'Do you ever feel invisible?' her therapist asked. Gio blinked at her. Feel? No. She knows. Because she stopped being the one to reach out first, and barely anyone noticed. She started leaving conversations unfinished and no one ever asked her why. And when she pulled away she didn't even need a full hand to count the people who had noticed. With herself included.

For as long as Gio could remember, she had been the one to feel the most. In almost every relationship she had. Platonic or romantic. It is rare for her to find a match, someone who sticks around long enough to actually form a bond. Lately, their number is getting even smaller, too.

And it's left her with a deep void inside, longing for a home she doesn't even think exists at this point. At least, she has never found a place where she's ever felt like she truly belongs. Fully. Intentionally. Forever floating in some foggy middle ground, never finding her true way.

'And what does that make you feel then?' The question has her shrugging, staring down at her own hands. An answer already at the back of her head, but she doesn't want to say it out loud. Doesn't want to make it more real than she already believes it is. Because at the end of the day, she is left with just one monstrously growing feeling.

Like she was never really there to begin with.
