I think yesterday was the first birthday that I spent when I wasn't at home. For the record, I'm counting both London and New York as being home, because they do both feel that way these days. And I'm not totally sure, I have a vague recollection of being on holiday with my family, my dad and mum and some siblings, right around my birthday. But the fact that I mention mum being there does show you just how long ago that was, so I was only very little, and we might still have been home when my birthday actually happened.

So, away from home, but not entirely away from family. Granted, Cam I've not known all that long, and although I've known Clement for a few years, mostly that's been very occasional. But I've known Paige for years, and while I've known Yael a little less, since I moved to New York she's been the person that I've seen most of, so the band is beginning to feel like another kind of family.

Yael did say something, though, about getting older. Still not sure that 23 really counts as old, but I guess it's certainly older. And that reminded me of something, of a song.

I've always loved this song. As a guitarist and singer, there's actually something really cool about a song that starts with over 90 seconds of this really fantastic guitar riff before the singer even opens his mouth.
But lyrically, it's really resonating with me at the moment as well. That getting older thing. For me, there's an introspection about it, as if the singer is realising that they aren't a kid any more, that time won't stand still for them, that some of their mistakes they can never undo, just hope that they can learn from moving forward.
And the moving forward part... there's that to. About facing the future and taking hold of it by the horns.

And that kind of feels like where I am, both in the band and personally, right now.

So yeah.... I'm 23.
