Special Lyrics

when he came to, he saw a terrible sight
the king and the queen watching over him
what they had to say made the man want to fight
but his chances for that were looking slim

they regretted what was to happen to the man
but they did what they had to do
the stranger had come to ruin their plan
and had to pay for it with his life well and true

they said: 'our queen had grown to despise
the public life with everything that it brings
we made up a plan of deceit and lies
where the private's the queen's; the public the king's'

'we knew of the tale of the monster mighty and old
but knew not that those tales were true
we attempted to use them in a move quite bold:
having the queen take flight under the monster ruse'

'if the public thought the monster had taken the queen
she could retire and just live in peace
as in a short time all would be certain she had been
killed by the horrifying beast'

'but of course reality trumps fantasy
and the monster was real, alive and well
and in fantasy imitating reality
it went on and kidnapped the queen for real'

'you saw all this, and came to tell it to me
and I thank you for that', said the king
'but I can't really let this be,
I must kill you so that you won't sing'

'you see, now the search has begun anew
and there's a chance the queen really is found
we want to stop that and unfortunately for you
it's easiest achieved by burying you in the ground'

'you'll be eaten by the beast, of that I am sure
and I'll go back to my capital alone
the queen can stay in hiding and endure
but I'm sorry your life's not anymore your own'

thus the royals left, leaving the stranger to die
he already heard the monster's flapping wings
its fiery breath soon was felt nearby
and began dealing the stranger painful stings

but the fire burned through the thick ropes
that held the man unable to move an inch
with nothing but his bare hands and some hope
he attacked the monster like a valiant prince

what happened was nearly impossible
but, nonetheless, I tell you it's true
the stranger killed the indestructable
snapping its neck quite simply in two

thus the stranger made his way back into town
and recited his wondrous tale
coming after the king, most gave him a frown
but the king himself, he went pale

the stories thus far heard were quite conflicting
and the townsfolk did not know who to believe
but the matter was not only between the stranger and the king
for a third tale soon entered the scene
