Just a Dream?
The party had barely begun, but I already needed a break. Too much music, too many voices and bright lights. I slipped outside to breathe. Rain welcomed me.
I sat on the terrace in a chair, watching the rain, letting the cold consume me. I looked into the distance, at a blurry glow in the dark. Just a streetlight, flickering softly behind the rain.
Suddenly, it started to flicker… then went out.
“Heh, just like in a horror movie,” I thought and laughed to myself.
Then another one went dark. I stopped smiling. My eyes went to the next light still glowing. That’s when I saw it — a small shadow standing under it. It looked like a woman, but something about her was wrong. Twisted… disfigured.
My body froze as the figure began to move. Closer. Towards me.
I tried to run, but I couldn’t. Tried to scream, but only air came out. I was stuck, unable to react.
Closer... closer...
And then I heard it —
a whisper:
“Martin…”
How does it know my name?
“Martin…” again.
I was freezing, but I could feel sweat on my forehead. I shut my eyes tight, too scared to look. I stayed like that for what felt like minutes… until I heard it.
A slow, heavy breathing sound.
Right next to me.
A raindrop hit my arm, then a cold hand touched my neck..
I gathered all my courage and opened my eyes.
Music. Lights. Laughter. I was back at the party.
Luna was standing in front of me, looking worried but also a little amused, and said with a teasing smile, “You really know how to disappear at parties.” Apparently, I had had too many cocktails and just “rested my eyes.” I smiled back and stood up to leave.
I turned back to look at the streetlights, just to be sure. Everything seemed normal. No shadow. No whisper.
But then, as I was about to turn away, the light flickered.
For a heartbeat, I thought I saw the same figure standing there…
A chill crawled down my spine, carrying a faint whisper I couldn’t quite catch.
And yet, deep down, I knew… it wasn’t over. 👁️
