Pregnant Again

The phone was in her hand. She’d already FaceTimed Dulce and Sophie into a three-way call, and they were mid-laugh about something utterly inappropriate Sophie had sent from her group chat with “the godmothers.” And then Michelle just… said it.

“So… I’m pregnant again.”

Silence. For a split second, nothing. And then:

“You’re joking,” Sophie said flatly, blinking.

Dulce gasped, her hand flying to her mouth in the most cinematic way. “Michelle!”

“I’m not joking,” Michelle said, her voice somewhere between smug and sheepish. “Apparently someone doesn’t believe in recovery periods.”

“That’s insane. Teo isn’t even a toddler!” Sophie cried. “You’re still in your soft launch era as a mother.”

“I know,” Michelle said, flopping onto the couch. “I was supposed to be sipping Champagne and recording my next single, not… googling if it’s safe to be pregnant while your other baby still thinks your shoulder is a mattress.”

Dulce was already misty-eyed. “That’s beautiful though. Another baby! That’s so soon… but it’s so you.”

“It is so you,” Sophie agreed reluctantly. “Chaotic, unplanned, kind of inappropriate, but undeniably iconic.”

Michelle laughed. “Thanks, I think.”

“And Tomás?” Dulce asked gently.

Michelle looked toward the door. “He cried. Like, a lot. Then he started making lists. Baby names, sleep routines, new pram models… poor man thinks he’s got it under control.”

“You’ve really made a family,” Dulce whispered.

Michelle exhaled, hand resting instinctively over her belly. “Yeah. And somehow, it’s not falling apart. Yet.”

Sophie snorted. “Give it time.”

Michelle grinned. “Well, you two better book your tickets now. There’s gonna be another ridiculous family gathering soon. I might even let one of you name the baby if you behave.”

“You said that last time,” Dulce reminded her.

“And look how that turned out,” Michelle winked. “Anyway, this is your fair warning. Aunties, round two is coming.”
