wmu: music makes the people come together
as a new yorker who grew up on a farm on the outskirts of nashville, i can say that for most of my life, music has been what kept me standing. growing up, it was the only place where i could pour everything i felt — spill my guts — every time i thought i was too small, invisible, or voiceless. at night, i would pray in my room, asking any force that might be listening that one day i could leave that place — that i could, maybe, fill a parking lot with people singing my songs and, hopefully, find others who felt the same way i did.
during a conversation with lily diamantis about that girl who still lives in this parallel version of me, isolated in the middle of nowhere, she told me she had felt the same way at some point too. we laughed, thinking about how much we used to dream, until lily had this crazy idea of creating a space where music isn't just what we do — but what connects us.
so if you — singer, songwriter, musician, artist, or just someone trying to express yourself — understand this feeling, this space is for you.
