📚 A visit to the library

John had always enjoyed libraries, but Annika’s invitation (or lady luck decision) to visit the New York Public Library had left him both excited and slightly off balance. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to go -on the contrary, he loved the idea- but it wasn’t the kind of place he had expected for their evening together. As they stepped into the grand building, with its towering bookshelves and hushed atmosphere, he felt like a character in a novel, unsure of where the next page would take him.

Inevitably, John found himself scanning everything around him. His eyes landed on a display of recommended books for the month, and one caught his attention: the autobiography of Angela Davis. He had heard of her before, but never quite delved into her story: revolutionary, activist, philosopher, a woman whose ideas had shaped movements and challenged systems. Reading just the back cover, he was struck by how fiercely she had fought for justice and how her words still carried weight decades later. He made a mental note to come back for it, but for now, he turned back to Annika, who was already a few steps ahead, exploring the endless rows of books.

But were they really there for the books? Or was there something else at play? John had the distinct feeling that time moved differently when they were together, stretching and bending in ways he couldn’t quite explain. Were they unconsciously searching for some kind of magical recipe book, one that would teach them how to pause moments like these forever? If such a thing existed, he thought, it would be hidden somewhere between the shelves, waiting for them to find it. And if not, well, maybe just being there, together, was magic enough.
