the chaos of love

Aspen had expected the sleepless nights, the endless cycle of feedings, the quiet moments in the dark when the world faded away, leaving only her and Kian in the stillness of their new reality. She had read enough about motherhood to know what was coming, had prepared herself for the exhaustion and the overwhelming love that would come hand in hand. What she hadn’t accounted for was Truett and an iguana becoming an unstoppable duo in their campaign to monopolize the baby.

From the moment Kian had entered the world, Truett had been every bit the doting father—helpful, patient, impossibly sweet. He had held her hand through every uncertainty, kissed her forehead when exhaustion hit, and somehow managed to keep her laughing even when she swore she had no energy left to do so. But alongside all of that, he had also made it his personal mission to steal every possible moment with their son.

Kian barely had a chance to rest in her arms before Truett would swoop in, grinning like a thief in the night. And if it wasn’t Truett, it was Izzy. The iguana had taken an unshakeable interest in the newest member of the household, her curious little head tilting toward the baby whenever he was within view. Aspen had walked into the nursery more than once to find Truett lounging with Kian in one arm, Izzy perched smugly on his shoulder, the picture of chaotic domestic bliss.

And then, of course, there was the relentless even the field campaign. Truett had been dropping hints—one hundred, to be exact—about how things were unbalanced with two boys to one Aspen.He said it with a smirk, but the man was far too committed to the bit for it to be a joke.

She had almost thrown her books at him. But despite his shameless baby-hogging and his absurd name suggestions, he was still the cutest father.
