What Did You Do to Me?

There’s a violin in the band now. Don't ask me how that happened. Strings too clean, notes too obedient like it’s trying not to upset the room. They say it adds depth. I say it adds distance.

I’ve always been a guitarist. A red SG and a wounded amp. You don’t play it you push until it screams something real. That photo? Me, knocked out cold on the floor. Batman comic over my face. Grit in my chest. Guitar like a weight I chose to carry.

We’re back on tour. Same endless roads. Same ghosts in different towns. There’s some kind of hunger in me again, but it’s not the same fire. It’s colder now. Focused. Almost surgical.

And I’ve started writing. There’s a song I’m working on.
It begins like this:

“What did you do to me?”
What good could ever come from a song that starts like that?

It’s not a lyric. It’s a confession. A quiet collapse dressed as a verse. I don’t even know if the song wants to be finished. Maybe it’s just a mirror.

I used to love who I was on stage. The rush, the chaos, the noise it felt like flying without asking for permission. But now? I don’t know. I watch myself from somewhere else. Like I’m playing a role I wrote years ago and can’t step out of.

Yeah, I made this mess. Nobody else. Wrong turns, bad bets, too many nights I thought I’d feel better if I just played louder. Turns out, some silences can't be drowned out.

I’ll keep playing. I always do. But the truth is this:
We were in love with who we were at the beginning.
Now we’re just disappointed in who we became.
