it was a rarity to get all of the remaining women of the Mahan clan together. well, all of them but Jacinta's daughter - Akie - but her absence was Jacinta's own fault. Amara's older sister had long shirked her responsibilities as a mother, focusing more on the happiness of her sons than the happiness of her mother, all while pretending as if she was some kind of badass feminist.
they all met in Amara's shop, where Amara was working with her toxic plants to create her usual concoctions that she used to help women escape from abusive and loveless marriages. working with the different parts of a variety of different plant species had become second nature to her and she was appropriately dressed to handle the plants with her gloves on and a mask pulled over her mouth and nose.
Acantha sat on one of the other counters, swinging her tattooed legs absently, and Jacinta peered over Amara's shoulder, without a care in the world as her face was uncovered and she otherwise wore no protection. at least Amara wasn't burning any of these plants. sometimes, all it took was the smoke from the burning wood of a plant like an oleander to cause irritation and vomiting.
"honestly, it feels like a waste of time to do all of this when you can just take a knife or a gun to someone who deserves to die," Jacinta muttered, shrugging her shoulders. it was obvious that she didn't have the same respect and love for nature that Amara possessed - but even Acantha seemed a little bored.
"Aunt Jacinta isn't wrong," the blonde agreed, sighing, "this takes a long time and sometimes you need to make quick decisions. you won't gain the respect of your guys like this. they want brute strength and violence."
the florist rolled her eyes, "sometimes it's not about strength or violence. it's not a bad idea to grow foxglove, wolfsbane, datura, and belladonna in your gardens. sometimes.. you need to have a.."
