He woke up slowly, the weight of the covers comfortable against his bare skin. For a moment he lay there, breathing deeply, eyes still closed, before letting out a soft sigh and sitting up in bed. The sheet slipped from his shoulders, revealing part of his back and the outline of his ribs as he bent over to scratch the spot where the tattoo on the back of his neck was.
Sab was still asleep, lying on his side, with one hand under the pillow and the other resting on his bare chest, breathing slowly. His hair was messy and the outline of his lips slightly parted. Daniel couldn't help the smile that formed on his lips.
He slowly ran his fingers over the sheet, tracing invisible paths as his mind reviewed the previous night. It had been intense, but also so tender. And on that silent morning, tiredness hit him with an unexpected force.
Daniel leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees. Every now and then, his eyes would return to Sab, to make sure he was still there. That it hadn't been a dream.
This time, it was real. They were real.
He turned back to the bed and lay down on his side, careful not to wake him. He reached out a hand and let his fingers touch Sab's cheek. "Good morning, husband." He whispered, even though he knew Sab wouldn't hear him yet.
But he was sure he would feel him, just like he did.
