"are you familiar with the work of your aunts?"
acantha looked up from a report that had been slid across the oak table to her. the report had a lot of graphs and numbers and huge words that she didn't particularly feel like reading. it wasn't that she couldn't understand what was in front of her. it was more that she didn't want to. didn't she have people for this? who would have thought that her dad had killed and tortured his way to the top only to have to take care of trade routes and logistics?
she had never realized just how many responsibilities he had had. he had never shared information about his job with his family. acantha had barely even overheard any conversations about them between her two fathers. then again, kai had been so often on "business" trips that she had barely seen him for a time. that was on purpose, of course. he really was trying to protect his family, but he really did have to travel quite a bit, too.
in the report just now given to her, there were detailed plans about how she needed to meet the branches in LA and chicago soon. the heads there were important to have rapport with and she hadn't reached out to anyone, really. it was all too overwhelming to deal with business in london and in tokyo. she wished she could run away, change her name, and become a tattoo artist once again. that had been her calling since she was a teenager.
she craved to make art. with hands that had expressed such creativity, she had taken more than a couple dozen lives. there had been blood underneath her nails, the evidence of being a victim of sexual assault by her own security detail.
"i'm familiar," acantha continued softly.
the man smiled, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "i think we may have some use for them in our organization. you may want to pay amara a visit. we have some use for her.. let's call them..
concoctions. we'll be holding a mass layoff soon."
acantha's stomach turned. she was not made for this world.
