She knew well how fucked up the media industry was. She'd stayed the hell away from it for years, but somehow, somewhere along the line, it had sucked her in. Years of her life lost, juggling her mom's news and magazine empire and that TV show she hosted.
She'd warned her mom. Over and over. Begged her to back off from the dangerous shit she was getting into, all for the sake of earth shaking jaw dropping news. It wasn't just risky, it was suicidal. She'd known. But her mom didn't know the meaning of stop, wanted the big headlines, the risks, the glory. And it had cost her everything.
The night the building went up in flames, she was there. She'd screamed, begged, fought like hell to break past the firefighters, but they held her back. "It's too late," they'd said. Too late.
Now, here she was, staring at the resignation letter in her hand. A resignation from the TV show, from the board of the magazine empire, from all of it. It wouldn't bring her mom back. Nothing would. But she wasn't about to stay in this fucked up industry a second longer.
