It would befit him that the second he felt like loving someone, they'd be taken away from him slowly—he should have been aware that this could happen. Everything had been too perfect; he'd been set to meet her brother, he'd already met the sister, and he'd been inspired to bring her to his cousin's wedding because if he was going to sweat, why couldn't she? They'd had a good time, then the darkness and loneliness settled in, and he wondered why the fuck he'd come to London in the first place.
Sure, he and Leif had patched up their differences, and there was no way he could potentially run back to Los Angeles again, leaving him in the dust when he was going through similar things. Only, Leif had told his girlfriend that he loved her over the last several years, had planned to marry her - he'd seen the beautiful diamond cut ring, to have her bear his children years down the line after she'd graduated from law school—the perfect picture. Elliott couldn't imagine the devastation. All Elliott had was feelings that were bottled up, and he was slightly thankful that he'd never uttered those words because that was a different kind of pain he wasn't ready to experience.
It didn't dull the pain that he still felt, though. Nothing but the burning liquid pouring down his throat or the high that he got from smoking a joint. He needed something else. Something more. But he felt he'd never achieve what he was searching for; he'd had two chances and blown them. He wouldn't dare take a third chance.
