1756. grief (mika's version)

he'd gone over to ren's place after a work shift to hang out and well, he'd ended up spending the night with him. they were tangled up in the bed, a mess of arms and legs and body heat. he wasn't paying even the slightest bit of attention to his phone on the nightstand, even as it vibrated both with text messages and with several calls. his thoughts were completely taken by ren.

it wasn't until the morning that he finally lazily checked his phone, finding a whole slew of text messages in the family chat, as well as nearly twenty missed calls from rosie, tommy, finn, and ciaran. there were voicemail messages left, too, and mika scrolled down to the oldest one and hit play.

"mika, i really need to talk to you. it's about.. dad. please call me back as soon as you can. this is an emergency," his sister, rosie, said. her voice sounded hoarse and full of emotion. absently, he'd wondered if it their dads were getting a divorce or having a fight. it was highly unlikely, considering how the two had been inseparable for decades, but it wasn't beyond the realm of possibility, right? things always changed..

he listened through a few more messages, thinking that his siblings were being particularly dramatic, until he played a message from ciaran:

"please pick up, mika. dad is dead. we need you right now. me, tommy, and finn are going to los angeles. we have to go to the hospital. this might be the last chance to speak with--"

mika hit pause on the message then, his heart sinking. he felt his stomach twist and turn and he got up quickly, nearly stumbling out of bed, and he crouched down in front of the toilet to vomit. their dads.. gone? lucien was dead? river was dying? what was going on? it was too much information at once. he was immediately overwhelmed.

all of his emotions hit him at once and he wasn't even aware of that until the tears had started to fall and he was throwing up again.
