It had been one of those mornings, when it couldn't just stop snowing outside. The world outside the window was entirely covered with white carpet, burying the roofs and traffic signs under it with ease.
Meanwhile, Maggie was rummaging through all the living room cabinets to find the Christmas tree decorations, Ella sat on the couch, changing channels on the TV to prepare for a somewhat cozy background for their next activities. She was about to finish knitting her first pair of knitted socks when her mother was decorating the tree Ella's uncle had helped them bring home.
"Are you sad that Joel isn't spending holidays with us this year? You two seemed like a nice couple," her mother broke the silence.
"No," Ella responded. "He told me they needed him in Japan as a chef at the beginning of our relationship. I have already made a hard decision to live far from you, Uncle Archie, Camilla, and others. What's the point of being together if we can't cuddle every night? Romance is everything to me."
That was true. Despite her own decision to live in New York, Ella still had a hard time coping with the fact that most of her people weren't there. At least Jasmine was there, with whom she had an opportunity to catch up in a cafe once in a while.
"At least you are here with us during Christmas," her mother approached to comfort her.
"Yeah.. And I'm working on New Year's Eve again.." Ella chuckled as she lifted her chin to properly gaze at her Mom over her head.
