The one thing her father had always been strict about on set was safety - which was kind of ironic considering they barely cared for Daisy's. But that didn't change the fact that her father consistently employed a specialist and always ensured props were secured until it was time to film a scene.
This was why Daisy had seen it unfold many times, before her eyes, yet never had been allowed to touch anything on set during those days. Just like she had watched on as special effects and fiction intertwined, making for many more successful movies by her parents.
So when she felt the cold metal beneath her palm that night, it hadn't registered at first. Mostly because adrenaline was pumping through her in the form of fear at the scene unfolding before her eyes. She had thought she was protecting Charlie when she went behind his back, thought that she could handle the situation on her own. It was her doing after all, at least that's what she believed.
Which was why when she lifted her hand and saw the gun on the ground, Daisy didn't even flinch as she picked it up and aimed it at whom she believed to be Billy. The same pest that had now resorted to blackmail as chaos descended upon them. She'd seen it in the movies - first hand, yet never held one herself; but that didn't stop her from pulling that trigger.
It wasn't the sound that tripped her but the force of it that sent her reeling backward - and as she looked at what she'd done; with blood splattered all over Charlie, Daisy felt the world swallowing her whole. Because life wasn't like the movies, she knew that better than anyone else, and yet, she had been reckless - so now there would be a price to pay.
One that was bigger than both of them.
