i cannot fix your wounds this time.
The studio was empty, the lights off, only the afternoon light coming in through the tall windows. The sun looked so tired as it tinted the floor golden. Mari stood in the center of the room, her back to the mirror, her black hair stuck to the back of her neck. Her heart beat slowly inside her chest, as if dancing was the only thing keeping her in rhythm.
She spun around once, then again. Her feet glided across the floor as they always did, but her body didn't seem to keep up with her mind. Her mind was far, far away. Are you really okay? Mari stopped. Her hands were shaking, she looked at herself in the mirror. She looked beautiful, almost ethereal, but just on the outside.
On the inside she was slowly falling down, slowly enough for no one to notice, but too fast for her to hold on to anything or anyone. Did you think I wouldn't notice? She had always been the sun in the room. The one who smiled the most, the one who lifted others up when they wanted to give up, the one who said 'it will pass, you'll be okay', even when she herself didn't believe in those words.
But no one asks the sun if it's tired of shining, right?
She squeezed her eyes shut and her tears started falling before she even realized it. You never used to cry... No, not in public. Not in front of the girls who saw her as an example. Not in front of friends, not in front of her brothers. But today there was no one watching. I'm not gonna leave you..
She closed her eyes. And for the first time in a long time, she didn't try to be the sun, she just danced with herself, in silence, with her heart and mind.
