Her mom had asked how big of a cake she wanted. Suppose the question was about how many people would come over to celebrate her birthday. The initial, teenage girl's response was still stopped on the filter, one that said she didn't need any ****ing cake and mom should take care of her own ****ing business. But no. She was
a good girl, after all. "Small's fine", she had replied. Seeing the smirk pass over her sister's face.
And on the next morning there was a somewhat small cake there at the breakfast table. Well, there were five of them, anyway. Grandpa would come over later with his five and son. So, yeah, family. At least there was that. They sang for her. Hugs.
Greta's self-made birthday card was cute. Some clothes. A new phone, which was welcomed.
But yeah, after all that, she went out for a walk. Not even right away working to transfer her life into the new phone. Couldn't be bothered. It was a Christmas holiday, but she'd have to admit that she kinda missed school already, as at least there she had people around her. She stopped at the park, looking at the frozen water of the pond. She wasn't feeling all that festive. 15. One more year before she'd turn 16. One last year of school.
She stared at the pond and, for some reason, felt quite empty. Like something was missing. Or someone.
