v. cheerful oblivion

It was an unplanned spur-of-the-moment thing. An 'I don't feel good, I don't want to stay here, please take me away, to anywhere but here'. And he had listened, had packed a bag with no hesitation, no questions asked. Perhaps he'd wanted to run away, too. Perhaps he'd just heard the desperation in her voice.

Just one quick train ride away, and the air instantly felt lighter. Like she could breathe again.

She had always wanted to come, but it had never happened. Never time for it. Pushed away for a later date, a future no one had actually been promised. She didn't want to save anything for later anymore, though. Wanted to enjoy the moment, soak it all in right now.

The days were filled with sunshine, enough art to make her head spin, Nutella-filled crepes until they were definitely leaving Paris with diabetes, shared hot bubble baths in the large hotel bathtub, kisses that made her dizzy, and enough macarons that they were sprouting out of her ears.

Distractions worthy of the Gods, and slowly it pushed it all away, further and further to the back of her head. The freezing lump in the pit of her stomach shrinking away until she almost couldn't feel the heaviness of it anymore.

Almost.
