I used to think I understood time.
Onstage, an hour slips by like a breath. On the road, whole months blur into a smear of airports and guitars. But nothing... nothing, moves faster than watching your child grow. William Levi is two, and I feel like I blinked and the tiny bundle I once held against my chest is now a small boy with opinions, tantrums, and a laugh that could resurrect the dead.
People warned me about fatherhood. They said it would change me, soften me, challenge me, exhaust me, stretch me in ways I couldn’t imagine. But no one told me the strangest part, that it would make me remember myself.
He’s got Cherry’s sweetness. Her smile. Her curiosity. And unfortunately for me, her stubborn streak. Already, he’s got this way of looking at me when he’s determined to win a battle, chin out, brows furrowed, arms folded, like a tiny, furious monarch who knows he rules my entire world.
And he does.
I never imagined myself here. Not the ex-boxer. Not the brooding frontman. Not the man who once thought love was a cruel trick and families were things other people got lucky enough to have.
Yet here I am, lying on the living room floor building towers out of lego, feeling more complete than I ever did under stage lights.
Being William’s dad is the most rock n roll thing I’ve ever done. Not because it’s flashy or loud, but because it’s honest. Raw. Real. Because it demands everything from me, patience, strength, tenderness, responsibility, love, and gives back something even greater.
When he falls asleep on my chest after a day of chaos, I realise something simple:
The world can take the songs, the tours, the parties, the noise.
But this boy… this little life Cherry and I made…
He is the legacy I’m proudest of.
